“If mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy”…..
While massaging a pregnant mum the other day it struck me how lucky I was to have such a beautiful job. To place my hands on a mothers belly while she is carrying a child is truly a sacred act…
So why have a massage when you are pregnant?…of course first and foremost… it feels great (and unlike most things that are pleasurable, its moral, its not fattening, and its perfectly legal!)
Most people enjoy human touch. A simple touch can convey comfort, love, awareness and many other sensations as well as alleviate general aches and pains.
Gentle massage affects the nervous system through nerve endings in the skin, stimulating the release of endorphins, the body’s natural ‘feel good’ chemicals, to help induce relaxation and a sense of well being, to relieve pain and reduce levels of stress hormones such as cortisol and noradrenaline. When you feel good baby feels good. If your circulation is improved, so is the baby’s.
A massage aids the circulatory and lymphatic systems, which keeps blood flowing to both the mother and her baby. This can help balance hormone levels and may help you get a better nights sleep…. and that has to be a bonus :)
So remember…”If mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy” ……
