Baby showers, mother blessings.. What are they and where do they come from?
In the 19th century, Victorian women began hosting tea parties for expecting mothers and the baby shower as we know it today was born. After World War 2 with the baby boom, it became tradition to give gifts and host parties for the soon to be born baby. The label of a ‘shower’ corresponds with the showering of gifts upon the mother. Initially only women were invited to the celebration, however this has changed over time with the couple often inviting a variety of male and female friends.
